THE DIPLOMATIC ROLE OF THE USA
These lessons will focus on the different conferences that are held throughout the war to establish policies and military strategies, although the USA, UK and the USSR only met twice. For this syllabus point, you need to be able to outline the key military and diplomatic developments for two countries over the course of WW2. We will be examining the role of the US and Canada in detail.

2. How significant was the Military Role of the US in Europe?
Starter
Today, we will be working together to complete a massive job... getting a usable overview of the US military contribution in the European theatre of World War II. Please note that it is not possible to go beyond an overview of key events in which the US were involved, before coming to a judgment about how significant the US contribution was.
The class will be split into two groups today and you will therefore be individually responsible for one aspect of the conflict.
1. Open your group's document by clicking 'A' or 'B below.
Today, we will be working together to complete a massive job... getting a usable overview of the US military contribution in the European theatre of World War II. Please note that it is not possible to go beyond an overview of key events in which the US were involved, before coming to a judgment about how significant the US contribution was.

2. All of you watch the WW2 timeline and complete the relevant events as a group. You will then traffic light to indicate events most likely to demonstrate US involvement against Hitler.
3. Complete the section of reading allocated to you and fill out the relevant section on the grid. You have 20 minutes to complete. If you finish before everyone else either offer to help or go onto the extension task on page 2 (lecture). As you make notes, remember to be selective (you are primarily looking for events that demonstrate US involvement.
4. Take it in turns to talk through each section. Edit it as you go with the aim of keeping it on one side of A3.
5. Complete the extension on page 2 by listening to Professor Mark Stoler's viewpoint on the contribution to WW2 - this can offer a fantastic alternate viewpoint for an essay.
